Verified Gross Mass (VGM) Best Practices

The Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) amendment requires that a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) must be submitted for a container prior to being loaded onto a vessel and this will go into effect July 1, 2016.  Of course, there are concerns on how this process will work as this will affect all members of the shipping community. This week the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Association (OCEMA) released best practices for the acceptance and transmission of VGM along with a process map to help shippers understand how VGM data should be submitted.
More specific details on the VGM processes and communication flow between shippers, Rogers & Brown and the carriers will follow. Should you have any questions regarding the VGM, please feel free to contact our Sales team at [email protected].
